The 2009 SEMA Show is the latest annual celebration of aftermarket tuning creations, accessories, gear and more. Ford is the title sponsor of the 2009 SEMA Show and will have an assortment of tuned 2010 Ford Mustangs, Ford F-150 Raptors. For seven years now, Sony PlayStation and Polyphony Digital Inc. (the software maker best known for creating the Gran Turismo franchise) have joined forces to produce the GT Awards program -- an event highlighting the best-of-the-best at the annual SEMA show. Over the years, it's grown into one of SEMA's most anticipated events, and this year, yours truly happened to be one of the lucky journalists given a crack at judging from a virtual sea of impressive nominees.

If you thought last year's SEMA Show was the 2010 Chevy Camaro's time to shine, think again. This year marks the first time the Camaro has officially been on the market and as such, in the garages of some of the world's most intrepid parts suppliers and performance gurus.

Ford ran away with the SEMA spotlight last year with its hardcore 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor off-road truck, and when it did, GM sat up and took notice. While it may be an old timer in the tuner world, the Dodge Challenger is still getting plenty of 2009 SEMA show limelight. The Challenger arguably the most 'retro' and handsome of the modern day American muscle car trio with its distinctive interpretation of the Challenger's lines from yesteryear. Ford has been grabbing headlines left and right lately with its EcoBoost twin-turbo V-6 engine, which it touts as a replacement for the traditional V-8. It probably isn't a surprise to anyone to see that Ford, this year's featured manufacturer, is bringing a truckload of tricked-out cars and trucks to the 2009 SEMA show, including several variants of the Focus, Fusion, and Taurus.

One of the most creative attempts at melding old and new came from the Ford booth as Detroit Street Rod and Experi-metal Inc. took an all-steel replica '34 Roadster and shoe-horned a brand new 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 into the engine bay. First came the 428 cubic-inch Ford Mustang Cobra Jet for 1968, then the 429 Super Cobra Jet for ’69. Ford recently revived the Cobra Jet moniker for a 40th anniversary, quarter-mile attacking model based on the 2008 Mustang. Building on that successful program, Ford Racing is employing the Cobra Jet moniker again for the new, heavily revised 2010 Mustang. The 2010 Ford Mustang could be considered a significant refresh over the outgoing model, but to SEMA tuners, it's a whole new platform from which to derive cool, performance parts.

Certainly making a big splash at last year’s SEMA Show with the world introduction of the 2010 Ford SVT Raptor, Ford is going one step further this year with the 2011 Ford Racing Raptor XT. Ever wonder what you'd get if you combined a heavy-duty pickup truck with a chest full of your favorite power tools? Ford answers that question at this year's SEMA Show by taking one of their 2011 F-350 Super Dutys and loading it full with just about every tool from the DeWALT Catalog. The partnership isn't as far-fetched as you might think, especially since Ford has invested considerable time and money into their Ford Work Solutions technology in the last few years, specifically designed to help supervisors and contractors keep track of their tools, trucks, and employees. The software program, combined with a few other hard parts, effectively turns any Ford truck into a mobile office, where a contractor can keep track of his fleet, send emails, print out invoices, and let his crew know which vehicle has the best tools for their job. This particular Super Duty has the new 6.7-liter TD V-8 (power ratings not out yet) and new TorqShift 6-speed automatic, as well as a 2.5-inch suspension lift and 285/50R22 mud tires. The 8-foot bed is completely custom and is exactly as wide as the standard wheel wells on a normal dual-rear-wheel F-350. Ford's truck and SUV presence will be strong at the 2009 SEMA Show, with multiple tuned F-150s and SUVs on display.

Meet the Hennessey HPE700 Camaro, one of the stars of the 2009 SEMA show. The HPE700's tuned 6.2L supercharged LS9 V-8 now wears long-tube headers and pumps out a thundering 725 hp and 741 lb-ft of torque, enough to rocket the car to 60 mph in just 3.5 secs and down the quarter-mile in just 11.3 secs at 126 mph. Hennessey says the car is actually good for even quick quarter-mile E/Ts, but is limited by traction issues. At last year's SEMA Show, Hyundai went full steam ahead in partnering with specific tuners to demonstrate its new Genesis Sedan and Coupe's abilities to be used as performance car platforms. This year is no different, with various outfits grabbing hold of the Genesis for their product showcasing.

Hyundai's latest tuner-focused R-Spec trim level for its 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe is making its official bow at SEMA. The R-Spec package is priced $3000 cheaper than a performance-tuned 2.0T Track for a grand total of $23,750, thanks to deletions of a few amenities. With more room, power, and luxury than its sibling, the Genesis Coupe, the Genesis sedan has attracted a number of tuners modifying the car to high-performance and ultra-luxury status.

Hot on the heels of unveiling its 2010 Forte Koup, Kia has announced today at the SEMA show that it will campaign the sporty two-door in the 2010 Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge Series. There is no shortage of Jeep vehicles at the SEMA show, but our guess is there's never been one like this before. First debuted at the Moab Easter Jeep Safari last April, the Lower Forty is equipped with 40-in. tires (about 10 inches taller than normal), a 5.7-liter Hemi, a six-speed Getrag gearbox, and front and rear heavy-duty Dana axles (44 and 60, respectively). Without question, the highlight of Lexus' display at next week's SEMA show will be the 552-hp, mostly carbon fiber LFA. The nearly $400,000 exotic, which will have a production run of just 500, will play halo car over the pack of six tuners Lexus is bringing.
